The story of Fire

Fire belongs to The Four Elements, a series of four oil paintings made in 1566 for Maximilian II, Holy Roman Emperor. Fire is formed from inanimate objects; the Order of the Golden Fleece and the double-headed eagle refer to the Habsburg dynasty, and the two large cannon to the strength of the Habsburg armies in their war with the Turks.
