The story of Ship of Fools

The panel is a surviving fragment of a triptych wing, about two-thirds of its original length; the lower third is the Allegory of Gluttony at Yale University Art Gallery. Wood analysis dates the panel to 1491, which suggests the picture may have been inspired by Sebastian Brant's satire Das Narrenschiff (1493). Camille Benoit gave it to the Louvre in 1918, and it was restored in 2015.

Hieronymus Bosch

Hieronymus Bosch was a Dutch painter from Brabant. He is one of the most notable representatives of the Early Netherlandish painting school. His work, generally oil on oak wood, mainly contains fantastic illustrations of religious concepts and narratives. Within his lifetime, his work was collected in the Netherlands, Austria, and Spain, and widely copied, especially his macabre and nightmarish depictions of hell.
