The story of The Star of Bethlehem

The Star of Bethlehem is a watercolour commissioned by the Corporation of the City of Birmingham for its new Museum and Art Gallery in 1887. At about 2,570 x 3,860 mm it was the largest watercolour of the 19th century. It was completed in 1890 and first exhibited in 1891. It is a full-scale reworking of Burne-Jones's earlier design for the Adoration of the Magi tapestry woven by Morris & Co.
