The story of Red Balloon
Klee's 1922 Red Balloon is a floating city of muted pastel rectangles with a single bright red disc — the balloon — rising into the air above the rooftops. Painted during his early years teaching at the Bauhaus in Weimar, the painting was acquired by Solomon Guggenheim in the 1930s and is today one of the founding works of the Guggenheim collection in New York. Quiet, exact, joyful — the Klee painting people most want on their wall.
Paul Klee
Paul Klee was a Swiss-born German artist. His highly individual style was influenced by movements in art that included expressionism, cubism, and surrealism.
