The story of The Music Lesson
Painted in 1917, the canvas is a family portrait showing the artist's relatives around a Pleyel piano and a window at Issy-les-Moulineaux. It is a much more naturalistic treatment of the theme of The Piano Lesson, painted the previous year in large flat colour areas and now at the Museum of Modern Art, New York.
