The story of Girls at the Piano

Renoir painted the subject in 1892 in several closely related versions. This one was bought by the French state that year for the Musée du Luxembourg, the first of his paintings to enter a national museum. Other versions are in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Musée de l'Orangerie.
