The story of Mother
Sorolla began the canvas in 1895 to mark the birth of his daughter Elena on 12 July 1895 and did not finish it until 1900. It shows his wife Clotilde García del Castillo and the newborn lying in bed, and is described as a minimalist composition with similarities to Catalan modernism.
