The story of An Allegory of Prudence
Catalogued by the National Gallery as by Titian and workshop. The three men have been proposed as the aged Titian, his son Orazio and his nephew Marco Vecellio, though that is disputed. The inscription says that from the experience of the past the present acts prudently, lest it spoil future actions. The National Gallery received it as a gift in 1966.

Tiziano Vecellio, Latinized as Titianus, hence known in English as Titian, was an Italian Renaissance painter. The most important artist of Renaissance Venetian painting, he was born in Pieve di Cadore, near Belluno.
