The story of Flora
Reproduced in sixteenth-century etchings, the picture was in the collection of Archduke Leopold Wilhelm of Austria and later in Vienna before it was exchanged with the Uffizi. It was once attributed to Palma Vecchio. The title comes from the spring flowers in her hand; scholars read her as a courtesan or as a symbol of nuptial love.
