The story of Man with a Glove
The portrait was in the Gonzaga collection at Mantua before Charles I of England bought it in 1627. After his execution it was sold to the banker Eberhard Jabach, then entered the French royal collection under Louis XIV and went to the Louvre in 1792. The sitter is still unidentified; Girolamo Adorno, Giambattista Malatesta and Ferrante Gonzaga have all been proposed.
