The story of The Triumph of Death

Bruegel combined the northern Dance of Death tradition with the Italian triumphal procession. The painting reflects mid-sixteenth-century anxieties about plague and shows period clothing, card games and contemporary methods of execution. The panel measures 117 by 162 cm.
