The story of Odalisque in Her Sleep
Hayez painted Odalisque in Her Sleep in 1867 as one of the nude compositions he made throughout his career; odalisques, women of the Ottoman seraglio, were a fashionable subject in nineteenth-century European art. It was exhibited at the Brera Academy in 1867 and has remained in the collection there.
