The story of The Seasons
Mucha designed three sets of the Seasons for his publisher Champenois: the large 1896 panels, a second, smaller set in 1897 and a third in 1900. The 1897 panels pair each season with a young woman in flowing drapery inside a gold-bordered arch, and were also printed as a chocolate calendar. The Art Institute of Chicago holds the 1897 set and the Library of Congress holds this colour film copy of the printed sheet.

Alphonse Mucha
Alfons Maria Mucha, known internationally as Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist. Living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period, he was widely known for his distinctly stylised and decorative theatrical posters, particularly those of Sarah Bernhardt. He produced illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, as well as designs, which became among the best-known images of the period.
