The story of Portrait of Hubert Robert

Vigee Le Brun painted her fellow artist Hubert Robert in 1788, a year before the French Revolution, when she was one of the most fashionable portraitists in France. Robert is shown informally and the picture was exhibited at the Salon of 1789. It has been described as a masterpiece of portraiture and has been in the Louvre since 1843.
