The story of In the Dining Room
Morisot painted In the Dining Room in 1886 and showed it at the eighth and last Impressionist exhibition that year. Like Mary Cassatt, she often chose domestic interiors rather than the streets and cafes favoured by her male colleagues, and she often used acquaintances and relatives as models. The painting is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
