The story of The Harbor at Lorient
Morisot arrived in Lorient in June 1869 and spent two months there, painting two canvases of her sister Edma, who married the naval officer Adolphe Pontillon that year. On her return to Paris she gave this painting to Edouard Manet. It measures 43 by 72 cm and is in the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
